The Origins of the Afternoon Tea
Early in the nineteenth century, the 7th Duchess of Bedford, Anna, experienced what she described as a "sinking feeling" in the middle of the afternoon. To satisfy her pangs of hunger, she asked her aid to bring a pot of tea and light refreshment to her room. Anna afterwards began asking her friends to join her during this time of day, for what she termed "Afternoon Tea". The tradition took hold, and spread through Great Brittan, and ultimately to America.
Today the tradition of the "Afternoon Tea" is brought to life in authentic Victorian atmosphere at Deb's Coffee House.
