The Acoustic Magic of Bill W

Our own Bill W. has played for Deb’s patrons on many occasions, and has recently been announced as a nominee for Best Solo Artist of the Springs, 2010. (Thank you all for voting for me, I am deeply and sincerely humbled by the honor…) He has spent most of the winter in the recording studio, but will begin performing this summer at various venues around town. Deb's Coffee House
And In The End...
House

We at Deb's with great sadness must inform you that on April 15th, we will be closing our doors. Circumstances have dictated our closing, and it is with a heavy heart that we bring you this news. Therefore, this will be our final newsletter.

We had a great time opening and operating Deb's because it gave us the opportunity to meet all of you. We could not have done any of this without all of you wonderful people, and we thank you. Your support has meant everything to us.

We would like to also take this moment to thank a few people personally…

Diann and Renee, Your support has been the backbone of Deb's. From day one, you were there to help us create and run Deb's, and you have shown that this family is deeply committed to each other.

Our appreciation of and for you is difficult to express in a few sentences, and our love for you cannot be put into words. Thank you both.

To our son Bill… His countless hours dedicated to our signage, and graphic arts, and the creation of Debs' website as well as his help on all of the family projects is and always will be sincerely appreciated. A true master of art in the making.

Also to our niece Ashley for her creative prowess in making many of the items we have here at Deb's.

Thanks to Alex and Diana (Our other Mom) and Melody for all your hard work here at Deb's… and to Corey and Sarah for helping us out every time we needed it… we love you and are truly grateful …

To the historic society, Kenyon and Therese at the Westside Pioneer, as well as all of the merchants, neighbors and good people of Old Colorado City that have given us their support and friendship, we love you all. We would also like to especially thank the Kessler family: Bill Sr., Joan and Bill Jr., They have given us, not only the opportunity to pursue a dream, but with their friendship and kindness grew a relationship that will forever be cherished.

Very kind and very decent people that we have had the privilege to get to know…

We would like to think of this not as Deb's becoming just another of the ever growing statistics that have become the economic and political norm these days, but rather a new beginning with different goals and aspirations. So what will we be doing?...

Change for tomorrow

Debbie, with the opening of Deb’s, has also opened some wonderful opportunities for herself, and will be pursuing some of those goals after leaving. Originally, we thought that pursuing those goals while simultaneously operating Deb’s could be achieved, however, with the recent national events being what they are; we realized that was no longer possible.

We searched for a new owner for Deb’s, but again, With businesses closing at record rates Opportunities and people seeking them, seem to be a shrinking commodity, and Our attempts at finding a new owner for Deb’s did not pan out before our deadline,

Our hearts are heavy as we leave this wonderful house, with its colorful history, and beautiful décor. It is such a warm and inviting home, and Deb’s had the perfect fit. We hope that this historic Templeton home will find a new occupant that will appreciate its beauty just as much.

Debbie will be pursuing a career as a freelance consultant in the food and beverage industry. Companies looking for experienced consultants to train employees, and evaluate operations for streamlining, will be able to contract Debbie for this type of specialized service.

Renee and Diann still own and operate their family daycare business, and will continue to do so.

Bill, of course, still has Wall to Wall Inspections, an ever growing company that specializes in evaluating and inspecting homes, as well as his contracting company, Handyman Inc. that remodels and repairs existing homes. Bill has owned and operated these businesses for the last 20 years, and will continue to do so...

Deb’s remembered (an editorial)

We are breaking with tradition for just a moment, by offering up a political commentary. We always did our best to ensure that Deb’s would remain a haven from political opinion, because we are a Coffee House, not the Senate floor. However, in light of the path our country has taken, and with the closing of Deb’s… why not? We opened Deb’s in May of 2008, just in time for Territory days of that year. That summer introduced us to a growth potential that exuded promise in a prosperous venture. We fell in love with the home, the people and the atmosphere of Old Colorado City. The Merchants and inhabitants of Old Colorado City, came to us with an honesty and friendship that can only, anymore be seen on Andy Griffith reruns.

2009, although not a bad year, certainly carried with it a marked difference that parallel what the nation appeared to be thinking and feeling. And, as the following New Year (2010) was rang in, the inner defeat of our nation was carried on with such gusto that even our little town could not be spared, and our friends and neighbors began closing their doors… We couldn’t help but think that our own little Mayberry was dying.

Debbie and I have always believed, especially since this is America that our own destiny, lies solely in our own hands, and should never be based upon the ramblings of politicians. However, when politicians bent on determining your destiny for you, interfere in your lives to such a degree that ignoring them becomes impossible, choices must be made.

Since we never believed in trusting our fate to a politician, we cannot trust that in just a few months, America will return to the land of freedom and liberty it once was. After all, no matter who we elect, they are still politicians, and the power they have recently given themselves is too much a temptation to ever give back.

We fear for Old Colorado City and America… America bred into us the entrepreneurial spirit, and it is too strong to ignore. Those who have created their own business know this yearning, and those who have no understanding of how business works, we know, will continue to vote for Socialists. So we will try again, but we know that the climb will be harder in our new Socialist country… but the American in us has to try… We are sincerely grateful for the opportunity we were afforded, and the time we had to spend with all of you. So as a last little Politically Incorrect, but nonetheless, sincerely heartfelt statement to leave you with… God bless you all…..
