We are breaking with tradition for just a moment, by offering up a political commentary. We always did our best to ensure that Deb’s would remain a haven from political opinion, because we are a Coffee House, not the Senate floor. However, in light of the path our country has taken, and with the closing of Deb’s… why not? We opened Deb’s in May of 2008, just in time for Territory days of that year. That summer introduced us to a growth potential that exuded promise in a prosperous venture. We fell in love with the home, the people and the atmosphere of Old Colorado City. The Merchants and inhabitants of Old Colorado City, came to us with an honesty and friendship that can only, anymore be seen on Andy Griffith reruns.
2009, although not a bad year, certainly carried with it a marked difference that parallel what the nation appeared to be thinking and feeling. And, as the following New Year (2010) was rang in, the inner defeat of our nation was carried on with such gusto that even our little town could not be spared, and our friends and neighbors began closing their doors… We couldn’t help but think that our own little Mayberry was dying.
Debbie and I have always believed, especially since this is America that our own destiny, lies solely in our own hands, and should never be based upon the ramblings of politicians. However, when politicians bent on determining your destiny for you, interfere in your lives to such a degree that ignoring them becomes impossible, choices must be made.
Since we never believed in trusting our fate to a politician, we cannot trust that in just a few months, America will return to the land of freedom and liberty it once was. After all, no matter who we elect, they are still politicians, and the power they have recently given themselves is too much a temptation to ever give back.
We fear for Old Colorado City and America… America bred into us the entrepreneurial spirit, and it is too strong to ignore. Those who have created their own business know this yearning, and those who have no understanding of how business works, we know, will continue to vote for Socialists. So we will try again, but we know that the climb will be harder in our new Socialist country… but the American in us has to try… We are sincerely grateful for the opportunity we were afforded, and the time we had to spend with all of you. So as a last little Politically Incorrect, but nonetheless, sincerely heartfelt statement to leave you with… God bless you all…..
